Look sexy, sultry and irresistible with smokey eyes and a touch of sparkle...
We love any opportunity to get dressed to the nines, but we particularly look forward to evening events, as it means getting dolled up in an ultra glamorous way, which we don’t get to do everyday. Our guest beauty blogger extraordinaire and yummy mummy Trusha of Secret Style File, has created a gorgeous evening look, complete with a sultry smokey eye look, with a touch of sparkle. Follow her step by step video guide to get all the glamour and glitz you need for a twilight affair…
With all make-up looks the base is always important. it’s important to use a good primer that minimises pores and creates a good canvas for make-up application - I love Porefessional by Benefit. To keep my skin hydrated and to help my make-up go that little bit further, I spritz my face with the Smashbox Primer Water. When I have a few blemishes and want a flawless finish, I always reach for the Illamasqua Skin Base. It feels lightweight, but covers well and gives a flawless base.
Contouring and Highlight

Start off with an eye primer like the MAC Paint Pot in the shade Soft Ochre, which will keep your eyeshadow in place all day. Before applying any powder eyeshadows, I like to use the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on in Hustle and draw along my crease and outer corner of my eye, before blending either with fingers or a blending brush. As a blending shade, I like to use a mid matte brown in the crease and just above, then blending in a medium matte brown into the outer crease to help create a smokey base. Then it’s time to add some sparkle! I used the Smashbox Full Exposure palette to create this look, as it has the perfect mix of matte, shimmer and sparkle eyeshadows. Before adding glitter, I like to apply the Too Faced Glitter Glue, which you can apply on top of eyeshadows and this helps the glitter to really stay in place. Taking a flat eyeshadow brush and wetting it slight with the Primer Water, I took the dark brown bronze shade and placed it all over my eye lid going up to the crease. Then, taking the other side of the eyeshadow brush, I took the next bronze/gold shade along and added it to the centre of my eye lid, just to add some dimension.
If you want to brighten up the inner corners of your eyes, add a lighter gold shimmer. Using the NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk, I highlight my brow bone and then blend out and not forgetting to add liquid eyeliner for added glamour and eye definition - I love the Burberry Effortless Liquid Eyeliner. Tracing along my lower lash line with the 24/7 Glide on pencil and then setting it with some dark brown eyeshadow, I then add the last bit of sparkle using the bronze brown along my lower lash line. Then, I finish off the eyes with lashings of Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara.
Set your Make-up
Before adding powder, use the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to highlight the under eye area and hide any dark circles. To take away excess shine and most importantly to set your make-up, use a light powder like the MAC Mineralise Skin Finish in Medium. You can just use this on your T-zone, highlighted areas and anywhere you tend to get shiny.
Add blush to the apples of your cheeks, as the eyes are so sparkly, I prefer to use a matte blush like MAC in Breath of Plum and then adding the Dior Nudeskin Hightlight powder to the highest points of your cheekbones, along the centre of your nose and cupid’s bow. This eye make-up look will go with most lip colours, but for an evening look you can really play around with bright lips and I am loving Funny Face by NARS at the moment. Set your make-up for the night with a couple of sprays of the Primer Water, so you don’t need to worry about touch ups, this also keeps your face looking fresh all night.
