Wedding Guest Make-up Tutorial: Shimmery Days

Get inspired with this pretty daytime look, perfect for all those spring weddings…

Posted: 25.02.15

Beauty blogger Trusha of Secret Style File creates a lovely picture perfect look, complete with all the shimmer, glitz and glamour needed when attending a daytime wedding, whilst also maintaining sophistication and elegance. Following this tutorial will allow you to stand out in the crowd, by not blending in amongst the array of heavily made up faces encountered at Asian weddings.

The Base
With all make-up looks the base is always important. It’s important to use a good moisturiser like the Emryolisse Lait Crème Concentre. A good primer that minimises pores and creates a good canvas for make-up application is Porefessional by Benefit. To give your skin that flawless finish, use the Chanel Perfection Lumiere, which gives a lightweight coverage and that radiance from within look. It is also long-lasting so there’s little need for touch ups.

The Eyes
Start off with an eye primer like the MAC Paint Pot in the shade Soft Ochre, as this will keep your eyeshadow in place all day. To add some extra shimmer you can use a primer, which is a bit more sticky like the MAC Paint Pot in Mooncake which is so pretty. Adding a neutral shade to the crease and just above like Naked from Urban Decay makes it easier to blend your shadows after, after which you can then add a matte brown shade to the crease just to define your eyes and add some warmth. To add some extra definition, take a good and easily blendable eye pencil, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On in Stag along your crease and blend away. The NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadows are gorgeous shimmers which come into their own when used wet. With a slightly wet brush, apply the shade Europa all over the lid, patting on the colour so the shimmer comes through, then take Himalia and pat onto just the centre of the eyelid for added shimmer. To define the brows and highlight your browbone, run the NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk along the browbone and blend.

The Burberry Effortless Liquid Liner is perfect for creating fine but defined eyeliner. Apply some false eyelashes for that extra flutter if you wish, but it’s not necessary for a daytime look. Be sure to blend your own lashes and the false lashes with the No7 Midnight Lash mascara. Steering away from black and keeping the look soft, use the dark brown eye pencil in your waterline and then run along your lower lash line, followed by using an angled eyeliner brush to smoke out the line for a daytime look. Using a small eyeshadow brush pat on some Himalia along the lower lash line and then for the last extra bit of shimmer and to really make your eyes pop, add some Dione (silver) to the inner corners of your eyes.

Set your Make-up
Before adding powder use the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to highlight the under eye area and hide any dark circles. Using a cream blush helps prolong your blusher and makes it look more natural. To take away excess shine and most importantly to set your make-up using a light powder like the MAC Mineralise Skin Finish in Medium, you can just use this on your T-zone, highlighted areas and anywhere you tend to get shiny.

Finishing Touches
Adding a touch of bronzer on top of your contour just adds some warmth to your face and Refined Golden by MAC is perfect for a summer wedding. To prolong your blusher, add a powder blush on top of the cream blush using HD Brows Blusher which is long-lasting and applies effortlessly. The Dior Nudeskin Highlight powder accentuates your look nicely. Add this to the highest point of your cheekbones, along the centre of your nose, cupid’s bow and inner corners of your eyes, to really brighten up your entire face. This eye make-up look will go with most lip colours, although for the day I would suggest a nude pink or just a simple nude. I love the Bobbi Brown Art Sticks and the shade Dusty Pink is just perfect.
