Alia Bhatt is fast making her mark in the movie industry. It’s not just her pretty face and youth that appeals to the masses: Alia Bhatt has raw talent and she’s not afraid to use it. With just two film releases under her belt and a further two to be released this year, it seems she’s going to be here to stay, for a long while yet.

There’s no denying that her connections haven’t been useful, she’s clearly prospering from having a family tree of influential Indian cinema experts. Bhatt is the daughter of famous director, producer and screenwriter Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan a film actress. She is also niece to well known director Mukesh Bhatt.

Her acting career started at the tender age of six, when she played the child Preity Zinta in the film Sangharsh (1999). 11 years later she was back, aged 17 and ready to take on her destiny. She’s not the first successful actress to start out as a teenager. Rani Mukherjee (star of Black and No One Killed Jessica) also started her film career when she was 17.

Alia's next movie is 2 States based on the book of the same name

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Khabhi Gham, Kal Ho Na Ho oh yes we’ve seen them all. Behind the camera of these famous films is the one and only Karan Johar. Johar is known for his choice of film stars, he has worked with noted actors; Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Amitabh Bachan but for his movie Student Of the Year released in 2012, he decided to cast new faces and Alia Bhatt was the lucky girl to land a lead part. The movie catapulted her to instant stardom with the film, Boxofficeindia.com declared it a hit after its three-week run,Bollywood Hungama gave the DVD 4/5 stars and Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama said: ‘Alia's role is reminiscent of Kareena Kapoor in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.’

After a successful release Alia took a plunge into Imitaz Ali’s film Highway or more like Bhatts Highway to fame. Ali’s role as Veera isn’t like the usual Bollywood actress. Veera is a young naive, child- like character yet someone who is physically strenuous. Highway is a story of Veera who is kidnapped before her wedding and held for ransom. Bhatt’s spectacular performance was appreciated by many of the film industry. Preity Zinta congratulated the cast and crew of film on twitter and: “Must watch #Highway 4 @RandeepHooda & @aliaa08 spectacular performances! Definitely Imtiaz’s best & most honest film. Don’t miss it Folks!”

Karan Johar tweeted, “I felt like a proud parent when I saw #Highway…Ali Bhatt is exceptional!!!”

2 States, Alia’s new film is to release on April 18, 2014 and has already had 6 million views on its trailer since its release in February. 2 States directed by Abhishek Varman is based on Chetan Bhagat's best-selling novel of the same name. In the film north Indian Arjun Kapoor falls in love with south Indian girl Alia Bhatt. Let’s hope the six million views hits the box office and keeps the ball rolling for the young star.

Fresh-faced Ali in her debut movie Student Of The Year

Alia Bhatt is already shooting for her next film; Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania which is also scheduled to release this year. In it she plays a Punjabi girl opposite her Student of the Year co-star Varun Dhawan. Alia has shown everyone she is not a star but an actress. The expectations from her are high but as for whether Alia be the next Rani Mukherjee, Kajol or Juhi remains a question only time to tell.
