Rising star Aakash Odedra performs an evening of dance at artsdepot
Dance is great to watch on TV but nothing beats witnessing it in person, especially when it involves one of the most exciting dancers of the moment. So if you’ve been hooked on watching Dancing On Ice or have an appreciation for filmi item numbers, you’ll be blown away by Rising; a night of classical and modern Indian dance that will show you a whole new world of what’s possible in choreography.
The man on the dance floor is Aakash Odedra, a professional dancer who’ll be performing three solo pieces by three internally renowned choreographers: Akram Khan’s In the Shadow of the Man which explores the animal within us - it questions whether, as we evolve from generation to generation, we are becoming more human or more animal, Russell Maliphant’s Cut which uses light to highlight Aakash’s movements and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Constellation which examines the effects of thunder and lightning, and its influence on our perception of the sky.
Each piece explores each choreographer’s unique own personal style – plus Aakash himself will also perform his own choreographed Kathak solo.
Rising by Aakash Odedra Company is performed at Arts Depot on Thursday 6th March, 7.30pm, in North Finchley. To book tickets visit www.artsdepot.co.uk.
