Contemporary Indian Design at The London Design Biennale

Not everyone would associate India with Contemporary Design, but a far cry from the film industry and fashion world there is a real appreciation for modern art and design alongside a heritage of master crafters, makers and designers. This was demonstrated recently at The London Design Biennale where The India Design Forum were asked to constructed an entire wing of the exhibition, demonstrating what Utopian Design means in present day India. One of 37 countries who exhibited at this major event, they created a giant, colourful multi-media installation, the focal point of which was a room filled with handprinted sign art, like that often found on trucks. Priya Paul, Chairperson of the hip, designer Park Hotels groups, also led a discussion about the relationship between design and artisans. Read more.
