Introducing The Band…

Meet Red Baraat. All nine of them!

Posted: 23.08.12

In just three short years, the pioneering Brooklyn dhol n’ brass band Red Baraat have made a name for themselves as one of the most exciting live bands playing anywhere in the world.
The nine-piece outfit is led by dhol drummer Sunny Jain who is accompanied by percussion, a sousaphone and a five piece horn section. The band fuses the infectious rhythms of bhangra with funk, jazz, Latin and the sound is so full of energy you can’t help but dance when you hear them.
In the US they are so popular, they’ve even been asked to perform at The White House – if they’re good enough for Obama, they're good enough for us!

The tour organised by the Asian Arts Agency kicks off at the Fusion Asian Festival in Bracknell on September 1st, before heading up to the Edinburgh Mela on the 2nd. They’ll then be heading to the Rich Mix in London as part of the London 2012 Festival.
You can also see them in Manchester, Leicester, Birmingham and Bristol.
Expect lively, energetic, upbeat tracks from their debut album Chaal Baby and get a taste of their live album Bootleg Bhangra for real!
