Beauty queen returns to the catwalk with grace
Amazon India Couture Week 2015 just wrapped up in the utmost style and pizazz. King of Indian couture, Manish Malhotra hosted a decadent finale titled The Empress Story, aptly held at prestigious The Leela Palace, with an equally impressive showstopper, none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The beauty queen is making her comeback in movies, so it only made sense that she graced the fashion runways once more. Despite a long break as a dutiful wife and mother, as well as being unwell on the night of the fashion show, the evergreen belle wowed the world as she appeared impeccable as always, in a breathtaking rich burgundy pouffy gown, with the skirt embellished in illustrious gilt motifs, with a vintage gold and ivory sequinned cropped pullover.
Inevitably befitting of an empress to remain consistent with the theme, the ensemble also had a contemporary feel, as a refreshing hybrid between a traditional lengha and a princess gown. Manish especially selected Ash for the occasion of commemorating 25 years in the fashion industry, whilst also celebrating her revival on the runway after five years.
Bollywood is known to take over the catwalks of all couture soirees. Amazon India Couture Week also saw newbies Kriti Sanon and Pernia Qureshi as the showstoppers for contemporary fashionista Monisha Jaising, along with Kangana Ranaut who wore a whopping 30kg heavy gown by Manav Gangwani’s night. Another stunner still going strong on the catwalk is Shilpa Shetty who looked regally splendid in a gold lengha choli by Rimple & Harpreet Narula, as a dazzling Maharani.
