The launch of Asia Fashion Week saw a glamorous celebration of fashion and cinema

Held at The Montcalm in the heart of the capital, the launch of Panasonic Asia Fashion Week proved a huge success. The initiative of Asia Fashion Week aims to showcase the best of South Asian fashion on a global platform by creating a traveling event which reaches fashion capitals internationally, every 100 days. Starting with London, a hub for South Asian couture and entertainment, the events profile was raised with the association of The House of Kotwara, a prestigious brand by artist, film maker and designer Muzaffar Ali and his wife Meera Ali. Their latest collection was sashayed down the catwalk, which personified classic splendour and the ultimate sophistication in ivories, golds and rich maroons, aptly resonating images from the kind of traditional grandeur of Umrao Jaan – the epic movie directed by Muzaffar Ali in the 80’s. Coinciding with his collection was the screening of the trailer of his forthcoming release Jaanisaar, starring Imran Abbas, again resonant of a love story from a bygone era, set against a tragic backdrop. Heroine of the movie, Pernia Qureshi who is also a lauded Indian designer, was the stunning showstopper of the fashion show. Amongst those well known in the industry, Muzaffar and Meera Ali both graced the affair with their presence and to show their support of the Asia Fashion Week endeavour.
