Personal stylists were once reserved for the rich and famous – but in today’s image-conscious world, these gurus of good taste are being used by us mere mortals too. From looking the part at big occasions, ensuring you create the right impression at a job interview to making you look stunning on your wedding day, a stylist will take the pressure off you, by helping you find the clothes, accessories and overall look that suits you.

Step forward Bal Chohan, the biggest name in personal styling for Asian women. Bal is the founder and face of Signature Style and has made it her mission to ensure each of her clients enjoys the process of choosing the right outfit, feeling confident and fabulous. Bal will help the client develop their signature style based on their body shape, colour and reflect their personality.

Trained at the London School of Fashion and self taught in her extensive passion for Asian glam attire, Bal has had the pleasure of personally styling and beautifying young professional women for the past three years as well as being involved in the Asiana Bachelor and Bachelorette awards catwalk 2012.
Signature Style offers a range of styling packages depending on your needs and budget. For example her complete wedding package helps you find your own signature style not just for your Big Day but for an everyday look you can keep enjoying. It comprises an initial consultation, which includes body shape, colour and face analysis and hair and make-up to help set theme for your wedding.

The next step involves Bal pre-selecting several outfits based on your consultation and then taking you on an exciting shopping spree. What girl could say no?
Her team is also on hand to style you for your event or occasion and if it’s your Big Day she will even assist the bridal party by preparing clothes, hair and make-up.

In addition, Bal offers a trousseau package, which helps you to select several outfits and accessories that co-ordinate with each other. You will learn how to pull the whole look together after she’s gone, with hair and make-up grooming lessons so you can feel just as confident when she’s not there!
Bal enthuses: ‘My job is more than making my client look the part. She needs to feel at ease to discuss her likes/dislikes and to accentuate the best parts of her physique. My creative flair and passion brings out the best in all women.’
Bal’s exclusive Asiana bride-to-be make-over

The make-up
Make-up artist Roshni started by cleansing and toning, then used a light coverage foundation. For soft, romantic eyes she used a combination of peach and pinks. Lips were kept neutral. The evening look was complemented with hot pink lips, navy blue and black eyes with gold highlighter on the brow bone and cheeks.

The hair
Roshni created a soft, sexy Grecian-inspired hairstyle and finished off the look by backcombing it and adding a side fringe. The evening look was kept loose with swept hair to one side for a more glamorous effect. Hair extensions were added for extravagance.

The clothes
This bride did not feel confident wearing matching colours as she was used to wearing dark clothes. Being petite she did not feel she could wear long dresses and was not comfortable with the lower part of her body. So the aim was to elongate her by dressing her in a block colour. Her slim hourglass figure with shapely shoulders, lends itself to a fitted flowing outfit, with the focus drawn to the top half of her body.

The accessories
It’s a common mistake to over accessorise and use the wrong colour. Accessories should add a sparkle to your outfit and not stand out alone. Your face analysis is very important as it determines the type of earrings that will suit your shape i.e. drop or round earrings. Necklaces are important as you need to decide how they sit against your outfit. Colour is key as your skin tone determines whether warm or cool tones suit you. If you are a warm skin tone, gold shades will suit you where as cool tones suit silver accessories.

Registry look
This look is perfect for the civil ceremony. The bride wanted a minimal look and to appear taller. The outfit chosen complemented her body shape and silhouette. This was combined with a soft, fluid fabric, which flows as she walks down the aisle. When wearing an outfit, remember that you need to wear the dress, the dress cannot wear you! The focus was drawn to the top half of her body using the neckline to elongate her figure and show off her feminine shoulders. The use of one block colour adds height.

Evening look
The bride did not feel confident in green but the correct tone proves she can wear the colour confidently. The dress gracefully fitted her body shape and emphasised her figure with a mermaid style skirt full of layering, which complemented her height. The shape of the skirt slims the lower part of the body and at the same time adds height to her hourglass figure. The delicate embroidery on the bottom half ensures not too much bulk is added to the lower half.
