Tina Desai Dazzles In Manish Malhotra

Bollywood starlet steals the limelight at red carpet for latest movie

As we arrived at the Royal Gala premiere for the The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel yesterday, it felt like gatecrashing an Indian wedding, in what could have been Jaipur itself, rather Leicester Square! The symbolic 'red' carpet was traded in for an 'exotic' orange hue instead, along with matching grand garlanded archways, adorned with lush pink and orange flowers. This all contributed to an ambience that delightfully resonated the flamboyancy and vibrancy of Indian culture - all that was amiss were the typical desi aromas like agarbati incense and hot samosas frying (we were cold and hungry and could have done with some of those!). Complementing the lavish setting were of course the glamorous guests, and what a star-studded evening it was, with each star shining as they waltzed along in their glad-rags.

Unlike the theme of the night, Sofia Hayat - as unconventional as ever - donned a black PVC slinky number, not leaving much to the imagination. She told us her dress was custom made for her by london-based designer, Atsuko Kudo who created Kim Kardashian's infamous latex dress. Sofia opted for this attire after being inspired by Kim, as it does justice to both of their curvaceous figures. We wonder what Prince Charles thought of her daring outfit, as he and Camilla were guests of honour at the premiere.

Fortunately, Dame Judi Dench kept the spirit of India alive in a sumptuously multicoloured ethnic gown, peppered with edgy shapes and patterns. Celia Imrie celebrated the traditional colours of Jaipur, where the film was shot, in flush pink and dewey orange.

The ever-beautiful Lilette Dubey looked supremely elegant in a white and gold sari and when we asked what her secret is to looking so youthful and gorgeous all the time, she replied: 'Nothing! Just good genes and working hard!'.

Arriving in an appropriately glammed up rickshaw, the dainty Tina Desai who stars opposite Dev Patel, absolutely stole the show in true Bollywood extravagance, wearing a stunning, sparkling white/pink lengha, embezzled in mirrors. The sublime ensemble was especially designed by Manish Malhotra for the lavish affair, and it sure worked its wonders!

Although we were disappointed that Richard Gere and Dev Patel were not present, we soon cheered up after speaking to British actor Shazad Latif who surprisingly in reality, looks very unlike his negative, long-haired character in the movie! Making up for Dev Patel's absence, the upcoming actor described his co-actor as 'bouncy and happy all the time'. Swoon and sigh!
