Unwind in a private oasis made for VIPS
Luxury and lavishness are two words that spring to mind when you think of the Aman brand of hotels and resorts. Hidden in secluded spots of natural beauty like Nusa Dua in Bali, the private island of Panalican in the Philippines, Phuket Island in Thailand and the south coast of Sri Lanka; only the most well heeled travellers get to experience holidays the Aman way.
That was until the five star Connaught Hotel in Mayfair London decided to open an Aman Spa; the first anywhere in the world, outside the Aman companies own brand of hotels. In fact it’s also Aman’s first urban destination – yet despite being located in one of the most bustling cities of the world, it maintains the unique tranquillity associated with the Aman’s Asian inspired aesthetics.
Aman has never been about size; intimacy is what matters most and as such the Aman Day Spa is a very special retreat. Located beneath the hotel’s lobby; the spa is like a little portal to the East; once you enter you immediately leave behind every day life as you’re welcomed into the calming spa reception.
Facilities at the spa include five low-lit treatments rooms, (a double is available for couples), with a dressing room, where you can slip into a comfy robe, treatment area and steam room. There are a range of holistic massages, body treatments and healing therapies to try, all which reflects aspects of Aman’s heritage such as China and India. Every treatment is unique, designed to meet your needs and using Aman’s own specialist products, found only at Aman resorts. All the ingredients are natural and the recipes are based on ancient philosophies and natural healing such as plant essences. If in doubt about what treatment to go for, then you can be sure one of the spa’s Signature Treatments will fulfil your every need. They include a full two and a half hour pamper session as well as massages and facials.
The Aman Signature Facial (£160 for 1hr 30minutes) is a treat for all your senses that begins not with your face, but your feet. The treatments start with a holistic consultation to determine your Ayurvedic dosha type, which assists the therapist in choosing the products that will benefit you the most.
To ease you in to the mood, you’re then given a gentle footbath to cleanse your soles and allow your mind to relax.
Next all you have to do it close your eyes, lie back and drift away in peace as your therapist cleanses, exfoliates, smoothes and massages your face, feet, head and shoulders…this is no typical facial; it’s one that connects your whole body ensuring the benefits are felt all over.
After your treatment you can sit back by the poolside or take a dip in the spa’s swimming pool. The water here is ionised naturally using a UV system so there’s no harsh chlorine. There is also a crystal steam room infused with essential oils.
For a total wellbeing experience you can also make use of the private fitness centre equipped with cardiovascular machines, free weights and a core focus area. The Aman also offers a range of movement and water sessions such as Watsu a special method of flotation – it’s said that one hour of weightless Watsu floating is as good as four hours deep sleep so is perfect for anyone who needs to catch up on some proper rest.
Whichever treatment/s you opt for, there’s no doubt that you won’t leave feeling like a VIP. One for total privacy and comfort, keep the Aman Spa to yourself – this isn’t a place for sharing, but for enjoying your way in your own time.
