It’s remarkable how one musician, armed with nothing more than a saxophone, can command a room, ignite the dance floor and create an atmosphere that rivals a full band. Yet that’s exactly the electrifying experience that’s delivered by TikTok sensation Mr. Saxo Singh. The Nottingham-based saxophonist has redefined live wedding entertainment, creating his own style of unforgettable performances.

Asiana caught up with Mr. Saxo Singh to find out how posting saxophone covers on social media transformed his life, turning him into one of the UK’s most sought-after live entertainers.

What do you love about the saxophone?
The saxophone has an incredible reputation for its showmanship and smooth sound. Commonly associated with blues, jazz and swing, it’s a very expressive instrument – you can feel the vibrations in your heart. However, my performance style is a lot more distinctive as I perform songs that you don’t typically associate with the instrument like Bhangra and Bollywood.

What made you pick up the saxophone?
You might not believe me, but I got the idea after watching The Simpsons and seeing Lisa Simpson playing the saxophone. My dad then bought me one as a Christmas gift, when I was seven years old.

How did TikTok kickstart your career?
I graduated from university during the covid pandemic lockdown. It was tough trying to get a graduate job so I start posting covers on TikTok. I posted two a week for two months, before I got recognised by an events company in Nottingham who connected me to DJ Aman H. He compiled my TikTok covers all into one mix, which I performed for the first time on the 22nd April 2021. Within the first 20 seconds of playing, I knew I had created something unique. Overnight, the videos I posted went viral and I received 50+ wedding enquiries the following day. The sax life literally chose me. This journey has been a big blessing in my life and I’m lucky to have supportive parents and family members such as my sister Jag.

What can couples expect when they book you for their wedding?
I offer two live packages: Saxo Hype Sets during the evening when guests are on the dancefloor, and The Saxo Serenades Package for Canapés and Drinks. I’ve released five Saxophone Hype sets (with the help of DJ Aman H), and a collaborative canapes and drinks reception package with Selina Serenades, a south Asian female pianist.

What do you enjoy about playing at weddings?
Creating an immersive, interactive experience is something you don’t see in the wedding industry. Whenever I perform, the crowd are surprised by the songs I play. The remixes, transitions and fusion of genres is so unique – there’s nothing else like it. The degree of showmanship I have is vital in bringing everyone together and celebrating the magical couple. From singling out specific audience members making them feel special, to serenading the bride and groom in front of their loved ones, everyone has a great time. When guests are still talking about my performance long after the wedding is over, I know I’ve done my job.
