Coastal Chic
This boutique Bournemouth hotel turns a wedding day into a whole weekend by the sea, with ceremonies set against uninterrupted views
The NICI sits high on Bournemouth’s West Cliff and is a short stroll from the beach. Inside it’s sleek and Miami-inspired, and you can see the sea from almost every corner of the building. Outside, there are tropical gardens, palms and a candy-striped 30-metre pool that looks as if it’s been lifted straight from Florida.

The Ceremony
During the summer, head out to the Ocean Deck and say your vows with nothing but sea and greenery around you. It accommodates up to 80 guests. The Ocean Drive Terrace holds 70 and looks out over both the sea and the pool, making it a stunning spot for the ceremony or for cocktails in the sunshine afterwards.
Inside, the rooms cover every size of wedding. Little Havana, features gold finishes and big windows that flood it with light, has room for 75 guests. For larger weddings, Ocean Drive is the main room, with views over the ocean and the pool. It seats 144 for dinner and up to 175 once the evening party starts. It has room for a dance floor and its own private terrace for pre-dinner drinks. The hotel is licensed for ceremonies inside and out, so a grey sky won’t ruin your plans.

The wedding spaces
The grand Jalau Khana where royal treasures were together with its lawns holds up to 400 guests, making it the perfect choice for larger events. For something more intimate, the Courtyard and Darbar Hall together can accommodate 100 guests. If you are picturing an outdoor mehndi or pheras under the sun, the Moulsari Garden and Mubarak Lawn each fit around 100 guests. There are plenty of other places for gatherings, including The Patiala Bar, whose black marble and burgundy décor make it perfect for an after-party or pre-wedding drinks. The Sunset Terrace is the best spot for views. It’s the highest viewpoint in Patiala, and they also serve a delicious high tea here, including fresh chai, pakoras, biscuits and live sitar music to set the mood.
Catering
Wedding catering takes place in-house using fresh, seasonal produce. Choose from canapés, a multi-course sit-down meal or a buffet, with vegan options too. Guests staying for the weekend have plenty of choice. South Beach restaurant serves comfort food and Champagne afternoon teas, while Old Harry Rocks is more laid-back, with bold flavours and DJs at the weekend.

Stay for the Weekend
With more than 80 rooms, most of your guests can stay on-site. The morning after, there is plenty to do – there is a heated outdoor pool with cabanas, plus an 18-metre indoor pool, a spa with steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi, plus a large gym. Families will appreciate the Coconuts Kids Club, games room and cinema. The newlyweds get the garden suite, with its own sunken terrace and a secluded hot tub.
Getting There
London Waterloo is about an hour and 45 minutes away by train, and Bournemouth station is a short taxi ride. There is also parking available next to the hotel. Guests making a weekend of it have the Jurassic Coast and the New Forest on the doorstep.
The wedding team runs venue tours seven days a week, with a glass of bubbly while you look around, and there are three packages (Coastal, Palm and Wave) to pick from. With the beach on the doorstep, your guests won’t be in a hurry to leave.
