A Star Is Born

Why everyone is singing the praises of Saloni, the celestial voice that’s set to sparkle in 2025

It’s not every day you encounter a talent as prolific as Saloni. The London and Milton Keynes based singer/songwriter has been making waves throughout the music industry, performing everywhere from Wembley Arena to the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend. Her recent EP Rani reached number one in the iTunes worldwide charts and her celebrity fans include Arjun and H-Dhami; both of whom she’s supported live. We were so in awe of her talents that we asked Saloni to perform at The Asiana Bridal Show and it became one of the most talked about catwalks we’ve ever had.

Singing her praises – why everyone’s talking about Saloni

It not just Saloni’s musical ability to hit the right note that has made such an impression. Her down-to-earth personality and relatability makes her a pleasure to work with, so it’s no wonder that brides all over the UK are eager for Saloni to be their wedding singer. When we say talent, we mean it. You won’t find anyone else with such vocal versatility. Saloni can sing in 11 different languages and in multiple genres.

Striking a chord with Saloni

Asiana caught up with the singing sensation to learn what she’s been up to since The Asiana Bridal show, how weddings fit into her repertoire and what’s next on her playlist.

Saloni, you truly are a singing sensation, tell us how your journey began

Thank you so much. I started my journey as a four-year-old. No one in my family knows how to sing or is musically orientated so it was quite a shock. But the second they heard me they put me into Carnatic music lessons which is South Indian classical music where I started my training. I performed at temples and shows which led to me singing movie songs from Bollywood, Tollywood and Kollywood. When I started secondary school, I heard more Western music and that’s when I fell in love with music from artists like Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars. I sang them in competitions and was eventually scouted by a record label who developed me as an artist and it’s now been my career for the last five years.

What do you love most about singing?

I love performing on stage to an audience, nothing beats the adrenaline rush. I felt this the most when I performed in front of 10,000 people at Wembley Arena.

What type of music do you sing?

I’m a versatile singer known for my medleys and mashups of different languages and genres. I can sing in 10 Asian languages – Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Odia, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada and Malayalam and with English that’s 11 languages. I specialise in Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, Bollywood and Tollywood and bring them together in my sets.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I’ve been influenced by many different genres and artists over the years. My key inspirations are Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh from the Desi side and Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes on the English side. I want to represent people like me who were born and brought up in a Western country but have a strong South Asian heritage. Culture is key to who I am and bringing that into my music means so much to me.

What was it like performing at The Asiana Bridal Show?

It was like a dream come true because I performed one of my own original songs. When I initially started promoting Chali Mein a couple of years ago I thought the song would work well in a fashion show with elegant outfits as the song represented women’s empowerment. So being able to perform it at a fashion show myself, wearing a bridal outfit alongside other models felt like a manifestation coming to life.

How has life been since the show?

I’ve been busy recording an EP called Rani, ‘Queen’ in Hindi. It takes inspiration from performing at the Asiana show because it’s about a young woman feeling empowered to follow her dreams and hopes, to inspire others to do the same. It showcases my vocal range and has six tracks in five different languages.

What do you enjoy about singing at weddings?

Firstly, I love making the couple getting married happy. It’s their most special day and performing songs that are special to them is a privilege. I also love seeing family and friends singing and dancing along. Couples can either book me to sing with a backing track or with live instrumentalists. Love songs are always popular, I’d say my most requested track is Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. But whatever it is you have in mind, I’ll perform the soundtrack of your dreams live, creating a magical memory you’ll both cherish forever.
