The Ultimate Wellbeing And Beauty Countdown To Your Wedding

International Wellness Expert and Life Enhancement Mentor Akcelina Cvijetic shares her 4-week step-by-step guide to getting wedding ready

The month before your wedding can feel like a whirlwind. But while you’re busy with the final preparations don’t forget to prepare the most important thing of all: you.

From nourishing your body and boosting your energy to caring for your skin, managing stress and protecting your sleep, these four weeks are an opportunity to put yourself first as your Big Day approaches. To guide you, Wellness Expert Akcelina Cvijetic has put together some practical tips exclusively for Asiana readers so you are ready to face the best day of your life with confidence.

WEEK 1: Smart nutrition and exercise

With a month to go until your wedding it’s time to focus on what you eat and your exercise routines – no crash diets or punishing workouts required. Focus on small sustainable changes. By combining your nutrition with targeted exercises that strengthen the muscles, you’ll ensure you’re fit and healthy for your wedding.

1. Eat balanced, satisfying meals

Start meals with fibre-rich vegetables or salad, then add a good source of protein such as eggs, paneer, dhal, beans, tofu, yoghurt, chicken or fish. Choose grilled, baked, steamed or sautéed foods over fried options. Reducing highly processed foods, excess salt and fizzy drinks can also help minimise bloating and water retention. Rather than eliminating carbohydrates, choose wholegrain options. Be mindful of everything you put on your plate including sauces, oils, and dips; they all count.

2. Be smart about supplements

Use supplements to turbo charge your metabolism and curb your sugar cravings but remember that supplements should be tailored by a healthcare provider for health and safety to complement, not replace a balanced diet.

3. Go for targeted physical conditioning

Strengthen your core muscles and back by doing daily planks and glute bridges.

Do light shoulder presses or wall pushes to strengthen your shoulders and collarbones.   These exercises will help you carry the weight of heavy wedding outfits comfortably; something most brides are not prepared for.

WEEK 2: Prioritise your wellness inside and out

Beautiful skin, healthy hair and strong nails are linked to overall nutrition, hydration, sleep and stress levels, so think of this week as an internal beauty boost.

1. Make hydration a daily ritual

Optimal hydration is the key to glowing skin. So, make water your favourite drink. Infuse it with fresh mint or rosemary, lemon and cucumber for a refreshing taste. Add electrolytes to your bottled water for maximum hydration. Cut down on alcohol, coffee and sugary lattes. Drink green tea or matcha to encourage radiant skin.

2. Feed your beauty routine

Boost your skincare and hair health by taking high-quality skin, hair and nails supplements including collagen, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, biotin and silica.

You could also start your morning with a beauty protein powder shake with berries, chia and pumpkin seeds, 1/4 of avocado, some spinach and fresh pineapple. Add some spirulina booster for gorgeous skin, hair and nails.

3. Book hair and beauty appointments

Avoid experimenting with new treatments to prevent unexpected reactions. Make time to visit your trusted dermatologist, facialist and hairdresser/trichologist who can recommend final beauty treatments that enhance your glow and make your hair your crowning glory.

WEEK 3: Defeating fatigue and boosting energy

With your wedding getting closer, you must protect your energy. If that means saying no to some things, that’s ok. Get your sleep, eat regular meals, stay hydrated and move.

1. Protect your sleep and energy

Sleep is your greatest ally to keep your energy battery charged. Aim to be in bed by 10pm at least twice a week. Don’t skip meals as this will cause energy crashes.

2. Re-set your energy

Practice a 90-second burst of movement for an instant pick-me-up hack. It’s super simple and effective. Ideally, do it outdoors for the added benefits of getting some fresh air and sunshine. You could try:

30 seconds – hopping

30 seconds – squats

30 seconds – arms swings

Go gently. The aim is to wake up your body, not exhaust yourself.

WEEK 4: Dealing with anxiety and last minute stress

The final week is less about adding things to your routine and more about taking things away. With family opinions being shared and last-minute changes, stress can build up but your priority is to protect your headspace.

1. Appoint a ‘Buffer Person’

Choose a trusted person, perhaps your maid of honour, sibling or cousin to become your wedding-day gatekeeper. They can deal with suppliers, answer non-urgent questions and intercept unnecessary drama, leaving you free to concentrate on yourself.

2. Set boundaries

It’s impossible to please everyone but try to avoid arguments. If someone keeps offering opinions about a decision that has already been made, thank them for caring and step away.

3. Make time for yourself

It’s normal to feel grief, sadness and anxiety about leaving your ‘old life’ behind whilst also feeling happy and excited about your ‘new life.’ Give yourself permission to cry and feel all of these emotions. Journalling can help you or practice daily meditation. Find a quiet room where you can be in silence and practice some deep breathing exercises to help you feel calm and grounded. The aim is not simply to look beautiful on your wedding day, but to arrive feeling rested, and present to enjoy it fully.

The night before your wedding

Your only job is to get a good night’s sleep. Finish your dinner three hours before bedtime. Something light like dhal with some rice and curd will keep you pleasantly satisfied. Avoid water before bed to prevent you from breaking your sleep for a bathroom visit. Take a warm shower, do your usual skincare routine and switch your phone off. Practice some yoga Nidra or gentle stretching to relax your body. Make yourself comfortable and drift into a restful sleep: the biggest day of your life awaits, and your most magical chapter begins.
