WEEKEND AWAY: Lake District

Gather your pals for a weekend escape to The Lake District. Whether you’re looking for a getaway with the girls or a trip with your groomsmen, the Lakes have it all: scenic hikes, outdoor adventures and luxury spas.

Where to stay: Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, Lake Windermere, Cumbria

We’re not sure whether to start with the spa or the bunnies; both will become a memorable part of your stay at Low Wood Bay, a luxury resort overlooking Lake Windermere. Book into The Winander Club, an exclusive part of the resort with a guest lounge and rooftop garden.

The spacious suites come with freestanding baths and views of either the lake or the fells – opt for the latter and you may spot rabbits from your window. Rooms are comfortable, with cloud-like beds, while breakfast is served in the Club Lounge. Return in the afternoon for tea and cakes, with vinyl records, the perfect place to catch up with your friends. Head to Blue Smoke restaurant for hearty cuisine cooked on a wood-fired grill or book a meal at the chic W Restaurant.

The Spa at Low Wood Bay

Even if you’re not staying at the resort, a visit to the spa is a must. Check in to their signature three-hour Thermal Journey, which takes you through a relaxing sequence of thermal experiences, with beautiful views across the Lakes landscape.

Start at the Fell View Balcony, where you can relax on a lounger by the pool. The thoughtful staff regularly deliver treats such as frozen watermelon and mochi to keep you refreshed. Inside, the Fell View Lounge has a DIY mask bar where you can apply a fresh face mask before settling down with snacks like mini cheesecakes and crudités.

Show your skin some extra love in the Spa Lounge where you can relax with an LED face mask and order a delicious mocktail from the pool bar. There’s also a pampering menu of treatments that will leave you feeling revived and refreshed before you head home.

Special enough for a friend’s weekend, but romantic enough to return to with your partner, Low Wood Bay offers a memorable experience that’s made for sharing, but is equally as satisfying if you prefer a solo break ahead of your Big Day.

WHAT TO DO:

Exploring Lake Windermere

You don’t need to go far to experience the beauty of nature at Low Wood as it’s right on your doorstep. The resort has a private beach where you can go for a cooling dip in the lake and a watersports centre onsite, which is a must-visit as part of your Lakes experience.

Hire a boat

Choose from a self-drive motor boat or a fishing boat. It’s a memorable way to catch up or connect if not all your guests know each other.

Group paddleboarding

The most fun you can have on the lake together is hiring a Mega Sup, where up to eight people can go on one stand up paddleboard.

Go on a hike

Hiking and walking has become one of the most popular group activities and the Lake District was made for it. Head to nearby Grasmere, Ambleside or Conniston for some of the best views and keep an eye out for the cutest little red squirrels.

Show your skin some extra love in the Spa Lounge where you can relax with an LED face mask and order a delicious mocktail from the pool bar. There’s also a pampering menu of treatments that will leave you feeling revived and refreshed before you head home.
