Brown-Crushes: Do they like you?

We answer your burning questions around Brown relationships! Does your crush like you? How do you tell? Find out everything you need to know!

There’s a whole load of confusion, stress and anxiety when it comes to ‘meeting the one,’ and falling for a crush isn’t any easier.

Why do humans have crushes?
Human brains crave Dopamine (a “feel-good hormone”) which is why we find ourselves thinking about another person romantically, even if we know it’s unrequited. This may mean we act differently around them or spend a considerable amount of time thinking and talking about them.

The feeling of Dopamine can be addictive. It’s found in comfort food, drugs and released when we run or jog, so it’s no surprise if you quickly gain ‘feelings’ for someone: it’s human nature.

A study showed a distorted expectation of love and relationships could take place due to romantic movies. If you grew up watching Bollywood, you might find your version of ‘crush’ and ‘love’ different from others.

Do they like me?
If we’re lucky, our crush may have a crush on us simultaneously (a ‘rab ne bana di jodi’ miracle). But South-Asian crushes tend to be different from Western ones.

You may find your crush runs away from you rather than spending more time with you. Even so, we’ve cracked the ‘South-Asian dilemma’ and bring you the best tips on how to tell if your crush likes you back.

Social Media
If you follow each other on social media, it’s more than likely your crush may reach out to you. They may send you random memes or content.

They may even send you random events happening in their life, like buying a new product to see what you think.

Body language
If you meet your crush regularly, you can notice their body language around you. This could vary, depending on their personality.

They could be more anxious, nervous or act hyper around you. If they get flustered around you, or blush, this could be a good sign they like you back.

Their eye contact is also a huge giveaway, if they have a nervous personality, they may have a hard time keeping eye contact and if they’re not shy, they’ll keep strong eye contact throughout.

Behaviour
If they ask many questions about your interests, hobbies, and life, this could mean they want to find out as much as possible about you because they are genuinely interested in what you have to say. They could even go out of their way to make sure they spend time with you.

Flirting
If your crush laughs at your jokes, leans in when talking to you and generally flirts with you, this could mean they’re interested in you! Noticing these signs is an excellent way to learn if they have a crush on you.

Sometimes it can be easy to mistake a person’s personality or ‘friendship’ for traits of a crush. It’s important you maintain healthy boundaries with the person, respecting both theirs and your own. If they have said they don’t have a crush on you, it’s a good idea to keep your distance from them until you can process your actions.

If you feel confident and feel comfortable spending time around them, go for it!
