H Dhami: Punjabi Roots, Global Vibes

British Punjabi star H Dhami is back with a global groove, a cheeky sense of humour, and his most feel-good single yet -“Jambo”

There are few names in the British Punjabi music scene as instantly recognisable or as effortlessly cool as ‘H-Dhami’. Since bursting onto the scene with hits like Sadke Java, Mitran Di Jaan & Har Gabroo, the West London born singer has become a household name, blending Punjabi beats with global sounds and undeniable charm.

Now, H-Dhami is back with “Jambo”, a sunshine-soaked anthem inspired by his travels and love for cultural fusion featuring African based artist ‘Shayoon’. Translating to “Hello” in Swahili, the track is an upbeat celebration of unity, music, and positive energy. With its catchy hook and colourful visuals shot across Africa, ‘Jambo’ is Dhami’s most vibrant project yet -and he’s loving every second of it.

Between jet-setting, studio time, and spontaneous moonwalks, the ever-charismatic singer sat down with Asiana for a fun, candid Q&A that shows just why he’s one of the scene’s most loved personalities.

The Asiana Q&A: H Dhami Unfiltered

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing right now?
I think I’d would have been working in IT or Project Management as that is what I graduated in. But me and a 9-5 office vibe does not work after some time so god knows how many jobs I would be flying through lol.

Which song of yours do you secretly listen to on repeat?
Time to time I do listen to my own songs just to try and get back that feeling of how it was recording the song and maybe what I could have done differently. But recently, my new release Jambo I have been listening to which takes me back to how the idea was conceived, created, travels for the project and video shoot. It was a vibe.

Do you have a “pre-show ritual” or superstition before going on stage?
My pre show ritual is always to pray. Thank god for giving me the opportunity to do what I love and to lead the way for me, be with me and to keep that positive attitude, energy and love.

If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, living or dead, who would it be?
This is tough but I have two: Michael Jackson and the living legend Gurdas Maan Ji.

What’s the weirdest or funniest fan encounter you’ve ever had?
Too many lol, where do I start! We shall set another interview on just that soon lol.

If your life were a movie, which actor would play you?
I would be Demiguise from Harry Potter -having the ability to become invisible.

What’s one thing your fans would be surprised to learn about you?
Take a few; I am a graduate from Kingston University, my first job was working at Tesco in Hayes stacking shelves, then worked at Heathrow Airport for many years after that in between University.

Do you have a guilty pleasure song or music genre that you enjoy in private?
Love listening to qawwalis and ghazals.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, no limits, where would it be?
On the moon.

What’s your go-to dance move when no one’s watching?
The moonwalk in my dressing gown lol.
