Bollywood beauty Anushka Sharma talks love and life ahead of this year’s Diwali release Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Posted: 05.11.12

The most anticipated movie to be released this year is the final film to be directed by the late legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra, who sadly passed away last month, just weeks before Jab Tak Hai Jaan hits the screens. Bringing together Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, it is a classic Yash Raj lovestory that is expected to capture the hearts and emotions of Bollywood fans all over the globe.
Rising actress and ex-model Anushka Sharma plays a 21-year-old documentary maker who embarks on a quest to find and interview The Man Who Cannot Die. Momtaz Begum-Hossain snatches five minutes with the leading lady to talk about the ‘L word.’

The entire film fraternity loved Yash Chopra, how will you remember him?
I was launched by him, but I only got to know him the more I worked with him and that’s how I learnt what a great man he is. He is so passionate about his work. When he produced films he did a good job but directing was his biggest joy, he had a childlike enthusiasm in every part of him, from his body language to his mind. I will remember him as being happy at work and his humbleness.

Tell us about the character you play.
Akira is the ‘anti-heroine’. In Yash Chopra films there’s always a heroine who believes in romance, but she is more cynical than that and very practical. She is very ambitious just like me, but I think I am more of a romantic. I believe in eternal love. When I find someone I will love him and be with him forever.

What were the highlights of making this movie?
Being reunited with Shah Rukh Khan as my co-star – working with him is so much fun and I missed being around him and the stories he tells. He made going to work a pleasure. Also returning to London, the city I love. It’s full of good memories and friends. I feel at home there. The best holidays I’ve ever had were in London and now I have the memories of working on this film there.

In Band Baaja Baaraat we saw you play a wedding planner, what kind of wedding would you have?
A very simple one. Not too loud! We see big weddings in the films too much, I wouldn’t believe it if my wedding was actually like that, I would keep thinking it was a practical joke! Small would suit me, but you never know…when the time comes…a girl can change her mind after all!

Jab Tak Hai Jaan, is this year’s Diwali release. How will you be celebrating?
I like to be low key with festivals. But I will go home and see my family and be part of the puja there, I don’t see them much as my life is so busy. Next year I’ve got a few more releases to look forward to, a movie with Vishal Bhardwaj and am starring opposite Aamir and Ranbir so it will be crazy again.  Diwali is when I will keep things quiet.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is released on 13th November 2012.
